Along the way he meets several people who open his eyes to a world that actually seems to offer its inhabitants a chance for happiness. First up is Kern, (Scott Foster) a pickpocket with issues. Next is Bloom, (Daniel Baldwin) the downtown world’s linchpin, who sends him off to meet the artist Visky, (Lee Arenberg) who hints that all Bob need do is get Lucky (Shahe Koulloukian). Lucky feels Bob needs to speak to a man of faith and propels him on to Father Tim (Christian Clemenson), who believes that a brokedown horse trainer named Dan, (Orson Bean) might really have the skinny. As each of these people brings out in Bob a side of himself long lost or forgotten, his old friends, Bill (Craig Sheffer), and Mick and Mary (Jeff Weiss and Anna Karin) fight to keep him just where he is. Further complicating Bob’s life are his landlord, Mr. Ricks (Clint Howard), his wife (Clarinda Ross) and other work associates – Gorky, his mailman (Jonathan Oldham), Francine (Eileen Galindo), and Eddie (Tom Hensley). Bob’s arc ends with his discovering a past he never knew, hinting at a future he never dreamed of.

He has directed three feature films, including Crystal Fog, a film based on his late brother's life. Steve teaches directing at TowsonUniversityand also directs theater in DC and Baltimore.

In July 2006, Israeland Hezbollah fought a bitter and brutal war in Lebanonthat was featured in media coverage around the world. Israelbombarded Lebanonfrom the air, and Hezbollah rained rockets on Northern Israel.
Civilians on both sides of the conflict were injured and killed, with hundreds of casualties among the Lebanese population. Back in the Detroitarea - home of the largest concentration of Arab people outside the Middle Eastand a substantial Jewish population - both Jews and Arabs demonstrated in support of their compatriots, and the Arab demonstrations in particular featured inflammatory chanting and signs that infuriated members of the Jewish community.
In a sense, the war in the Middle Easttransported to Michigan, rupturing long-standing ties between the Jewish and Arab communities. News coverage of the war and of the demonstrations was controversial and condemned by both sides. In a 30 minute documentary, 'Arabs, Jews, and the News' combines footage of the war and the demonstrations, with interviews with community leaders, journalists, performers, and people who were in the Middle East during the war, to present the Middle East conflict and the parallel conflict that erupted in Michigan.
