Story Line

“Hey, why keep doing it, why keep writing songs? Why keep recording albums?…Over the years I think I came up with an answer to that.” – Paul Mark

Full-length documentary probing the decades-long saga of the New York City-based roots rock cult band Paul Mark & The Van Dorens. It’s a tale of one original band’s failure to break through during a culturally bereft era. Included are live recordings recently tracked in a vacant taxi garage underneath the Queensboro Bridge. Bemused through it all is Mark, the band’s creative center who squints at the futility and shifts humorously between a deep focus on his musical vision and a cutting skepticism of a world that’s slowly going mad around him.
